Subhash Ghai's institute of filmmaking, Whistling Woods International is not only nurturing young talents in the field of filmmaking but also exposing the world of Indian cinema to global technology.

Just recently the institute showcased the Weisscam HS-1, a high-speed camera from Germany. While usual cameras work at the speed of 150 frames per second and certain advanced cameras work at the speed of 500 frames per second, the Weisscam HS-1 can be tagged as the fastest camera which can shoot as much as 1000 frames per second.

This camera is the first one of its kind to be brought in India. Imported from Germany by Anant Kamath, there was a demonstration for the students of Whistling Woods International over a period of two days while the third day saw the likes of ace Indian cinematographers Santosh Sivan, Ashok Mehta, Jehangir Choudhary, etc. being shown the Weisscam.

"This is not a revolutionary technology but an evolutionary technology”, said Jehangir Choudhary who has shot films like Chachi 420, Being Cyrus and Mangal Pandey. "However, this camera will be used mostly for ad films and only particular shots in movies which require capturing of high speed images.”

The Weisscam is a first of it kind not only in India but across the world. Adds Anant Kamath, "An added advantage is that while other cameras capture images on films, the Weisscam directly transfers it to HD”.
