I too love my religion and and its Vedic philosophy and it says "Mano to Ishwar aur naa mano to pathar". If you have faith you can see GOD in stones or else it is mere a stone. The only point i want to make here is that we should not question those devotees who have seen GOD in others. There are many such instances when people get influenced so much that he/she see GOD in others.
Vivekanand had seen GOD in his in guru Ram Krishna. Rabindra Nath Tagore described Gandhi as Mahatma Supreme Soul. It is our rich culture that we worship from banyan tree to human being to snakes to stones. We Indians see everything as the inherent part of GOD and we worship for people who have done something extraordinary for our country. We praise Sachin Tendulkar for what he has showed with the bat in the game of cricket. We praise Amitabh Bachchan for what he has done in the field of acting. If certain section of the society has built temples in the name of these celebrities and are doing charity works, it should be appreciated and not seen as otherwise. Sadly we have very few living legend around who have made us proud in the whole world and Amitabh Bachchan is one of them. I have been to few of the places where people recognize Indians as the place of Amitabh Bachchan and they do not know anyone else. Aren't we so selfish that we forget all the good deeds done by these people?
If i would start writing what Mr. Bachchan has done for the betterment of the humankind and for the goodwill of our country, a book will not be enough, but i can mention those references. It would be better to go and ask those people who became aware of polio drops only after watching him on posters and TV screen. It would be better if you go and ask UNO why they have selected this icon to be its goodwill ambassador. It would be better if you go and ask French government why they have given him the highest civilian award to Mr. Bachchan. It would be better if you go and ask UK University and Delhi University why they have awarded him the honor. It would be better if you go and ask why universities have accepted Mr. Bachchan as a subject and awarded PHD to those people who have studied them. It would be better if you go and ask BBC why Mr. Bachchan has been awarded as the superstar of the millennium.
If you are not satisfied with these answers i would request you to visit few of the temples in his name and ask those people who are putting their hard earned money, building temples in his name and worshiping him. But please do not issue fatwa against those innocent guys who are doing charity work in the name of this icon, it is for sure not in our culture. I personally do not worship him but i do not want to stop others who are idolizing him as it all depends upon one's faith.
